This was a video shown by the International Organisation of Migration during the 2017 11th ICGLR-OECD-UN GoE Joint Forum on Responsible Mineral Supply Chains. Personal stories from miners like this one are essential to not just understanding the challenges of responsible mineral trading but most importantly to solving those challenges. I strongly encourage anyone involved not just in the private sector supply chains that source from these areas but especially those stakeholders involved in the decision making process of legislation or initiatives that directly impact these small scale miners to actually come and spend time in the field. Interact with the thousands of people who make a living from mining in these small groups, see reality from their eyes, not from behind your desk…
I applaud the efforts, the ground work that our stakeholders, partners and colleagues have done so far in the region. A special ‘good job’ to IOM and our friends in USAID to whom deserve every bit of credit for building the foundation the Fair Congo initiatives are now standing on. Thank you!
